Advance Medical Directives

Advance Medical Directives

OTHERWISE known as “Living Wills.”  These are designed to inform your doctors and your family what to do in the event of relapse into a “permanent vegetative state.”  Advance Medical Directives are now enforceable under the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

A TYPICAL Directive would advise all concerned of your on-going directions not to be resuscitated or kept alive indefinitely by drugs or machines if recovery to an acceptable quality of life is pronounced unlikely by two Doctors, one of whom is a Consultant.

NOTE that this does not permit or encourage euthanasia, which is illegal in the UK.
